I’m ready to be a Social Media Superstar…what next?

So you’ve read our previous blog “A little nudge to plan your Social Media Strategy for 2013” and you know the incredibly HUGE benefits that you are going to gain from being a Social Media Superstar. You are committed, excited and raring to go, you probably have a Twitter account, Facebook Page and LinkedIn profile, but maybe there are some gaps in your knowledge about other Social Media options such as LinkedIn Pages, Pinterest, YouTube and Google+. Possibly your plan or strategy isn’t quite as dynamic as you would like it to be and you need to factor in the time it is going to take.

So what first?

Research! Find out more about the range of Social Media Networks and management tools such as Hootsuite that you can use. How do they work? What do you do with each platform? If you do not want to spend hours working it out for yourself there are many companies (just like us!) who will boost your knowledge and ability with bespoke training, helping you to get setup and understanding it all.

More research! Check out your competition and your industry leaders. What are they doing and what response is it generating for them?

Now design your three month Social Media Calendar:

  • What events or promotions are you holding?
  • Are you releasing new products or services?
  • What is taking place in your industry that you can talk about
  • Do the seasons have an effect on what your community needs from you?
  • How much time will you dedicate to scheduling, creating new content and interacting on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule?

Create your content to different formats for tweets, Facebook and LinkedIn updates, YouTube videos, blogs and infographics. Get creative in how you present it. Make sure it is in-line with your calendar and you are ready to roll it out!

We always recommend a mixture of scheduled and ad-hoc interactions. Scheduling means better time management and it will flow more smoothly but you need spur-of-the-moment activity for those really interesting conversations that take place and build solid foundations for good relationships.
