It’s Christmas!! Switch off from Social Media and Be Present

I don’t know about you but I get annoyed when the people around me are more focused on their mobile phone than the people in the room. Granted, it can be difficult as a small business owner but everyone deserves to to switch off from their business and focus on the family fun taking place. Especially over Christmas and New Year!

Here’s a few ways to help you do that with your Social Media (and other demands):

  • Schedule your posts in advance. Don’t feel you have to post everyday in real time. Guess what…everyone else is busy celebrating Christmas too.
  • Have a set 15 to 30 minutes a day to check your account and messages. Get it done, log out and go back to play.
  • Turn the notifications on your Smartphone OFF. You do not an instant alert when you gain a new follower on Twitter or they favourite a tweet. In fact, turn off those email notifications off too!
  • Even better – put the Smartphone away! It doesn’t need to be an extension of your right arm (no discrimination meant to lefties there, my mum is one).

One of the best gifts you can give to the people you love over the festive period is your full attention. Be present, enjoy those precious moments. Social Media will still be there it’s over!
