Let me share a little story I heard recently.
Bill (not his real name), hired Ben (also not his real name!) for help with a social media campaign for his gardening and landscaping business, The Flower Pot Men (guess what, that’s right, not the real biz!).
Ben got to work creating new tweets which were approved by Bill, and then it was time to get tweeting. However, Bill logged into his Twitter to find that all the tweets had been sent out in a mass block, one after the other, on a Friday night. Oh dear!
To me this was no kids bedtime story, it was a nightmare!
Do you know why? Are you sitting comfortably? I’ll tell you…
Blasting your followers, friends and connections on any social media network with lots of posts in a short space of time shows very little thought or respect for those who are online at that moment. I have unfollowed people who have overloaded my Twitter feed with 20+ tweets in the space of a few minutes.
Everyone uses social media at different times of day. If you post a block of tweets once a week over the space of 5 minutes, how much exposure do you think you will get? Not a lot! You need a consistent spread out approach in order to share your message with as many people as possible.
What Ben should have done was to use Tweriod to get an idea of the best times to be tweeting. Then scheduled the tweets using HootSuite or Edgar (both of which we use) in advance to ensure a more targeted, streamlined approach for increased reach and results.
Take the time to assess you social media activity and see when you get more interaction and views. Are you posting at the right times? Make YOUR time on social media count!
